The immigration process sometimes feels like it is based on geological time. Often, it is impossible to get the immigration agency to move any faster. However, in certain circumstances, the USCIS will consider a request to expedite an immigration petition.
The USCIS expedites petitions on a case-by-case basis. To be considered for an expedited request, a petitioner must show:
- severe financial loss to company or individual
- extreme emergent situation
- humanitarian situation
- a nonprofit status of requesting organization in furtherance of the cultural and social interests of the United States
- a Department of Defense or national Interest Situation
- a USCIS error, or
- a compelling interest of USCIS
If a petition has already been submitted, a petitioner can seek an expedited processing by calling (800) 375-5283.
